And profits? While it is injurious to equate success with profits, profits are crucial to enduring business success. Without profits, no company is long for this world. However, at JB we begin with the recognition that the indispensable foundation for sustainable success is what is right and good. And to be clear—the goodness to which we are referring has nothing to do with platitudes or piety. Our work has roots in the field of business ethics, but our focus is on the positive side of ethics. We leave to others compliance training, programs to prevent malfeasance, investigations, and the like. Nor do offer packaged programs with the aim of training employees on how to recognize ethical problems and how to respond. Rather, we offer research-based deep detailed listening to engage with a company’s employees and other stakeholders to garner insights and inspiration that can foster blue-sky thinking that contributes to strategy development and discovering the sources of vitality essential to flexible and adaptive cultures. We understand that change can be risky. However, the overly cautious are just as capable of driving a company into the ground as the reckless. In this period of global economic stress, for businesses to survive and thrive, they will need to reimagine what they could be and give change their best shot.
